Education system in France is symbolized by early age school going. Mostly, children in France start going to schools from the age of 2, nearly 50% of the children, or from the age of 3. The schooling in France is mandatory until the age of 16. Where in other European countries like Germany and Finland, children spend less than 700 hours in school; here in France, more than 900 hrs of schooling is done every year.

Education in France takes place mostly in state schools. State schools lack many extra-curricular activities. There is usually no gyms, pools, or sport facilities. There are not school clubs or sport teams. Computers are rarely used, and work is done on paper. To make up for this an emphasis is placed on grammar and other studies. Calligraphy is also taught. Philosophy and environmental studies also make up a part of the curriculum for education in France.

State schools are considered better than private schools in France, and attendance in private schools were traditionally for linguistic of religious reasons.
